No half helmets in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In order to create awareness among the people on the benefits of using ISI certified helmets, the city traffic police will begin strict enforcement drive from February 1.
In spite of repeatedly warning about the dangers of wearing substandard helmets that don’t comply with the Indian Standard Institute (ISI) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), it is observed that two wheeler riders and pillion continue wearing them.
Additional Commissioner of Traffic Police warned that “It is very important that people understand the risk of wearing substandard helmets that don’t meet the standards of ISI and BIS. Such helmets don’t protect the skull of the rider from injuries during accidents and might end up taking lives of the riders. The awareness campaign shall begin and strict actions will be taken against those who don’t wear the ISI and BIS certified helmets while riding two-wheelers from February 1”.
The police had observed that the helmet of the rider or pillion would be broken into pieces as an outcome of an accident. Those are the helmets without the ISI certification. Such helmets are usually worn by construction workers and they don’t provide protection from the impact of accidents.
The police also added that the half face helmets are also dangerous and it is compulsory that the motorists start wearing the full faced helmets as only the full faced helmets provide complete safety to the riders.
Earlier this week the Mysuru police carried out a similar awareness drive where thousands of helmets that weren’t ISI certified were seized and shops selling such helmets were also closed down.
