Bengaluru: A three year old girl child was drowned to death after accidently falling into drainage water Doddabommasandra in Vidyaranyapura police limits on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Tanushree, daughter of Subanna and Lakshmi. The family hails from Kalaburgi and lived in Doddabommasandra for the past five years. They lived in a shed next to the drain water which did not have any barrier. The parents are daily wage labourers in the same area.
On Tuesday morning the parents had left for work and Tanushree was alone in the shed. While playing near the shed she accidently fell into the storming drain which was more than ten feet deep. After an hour, the girl’s brother came to the shed to find the girl missing. He immediately called out to his parents and they started searching for Tanushree everywhere. They found Tanushree in the drain and immediately rushed her to the hospital. But Tanushree was declared dead when she was brought. The body was then handed over to the p[parents after the post-mortem at MS Ramaiah hospital.
A case has been filed against BWSSB officer Gopalakirhsna for giving the family permission to reside next to the storm water drain. The family was compensated with Rs.5 lakhs by Mayor Sampath Raj who visited the spot. He also ordered Yelahanka zonal engineer Parmeshwar to build safe barriers across such storm water drains to avoid any accidents in future.
According to the people living in an apartment nearby, there are many families that reside in such areas and build small sheds. These families use the same drains as an open air toilet and use wooden planks to cross the drain water. The BBMP officials have not taken any actions in spite of being aware about such standard of living.
