Tiger population positive in Karnataka

Chamarajanagar: The All-India Tiger Estimation conducts survey once in four years in tiger reserves and wildlife forest divisions and in the territorial forest divisions of the State. This year, forest officials conducted a three-day survey and have noticed an increase in the number of big cats in the five reserves of the state.

As per the past survey in the year 2014, Karnataka held a record for the highest number of tigers in the country numbered at 420.

At the Biligiriranga Hills, the survey shows a large presence of tigers. The director at the Biligiriranga Hills reserve reported that the staffs sighted tigers at K. Gudi and BR Hill ranges on Wednesday.

The director of Bhadra Tiger Reserve Manikantan said that they sighted eight tigers in the three days of the survey. Whereas, Bandipur National Park Director Ambady Madhav said that they sighted total of 12 tigers in the reserve.

Bhadra Tiger Reserve Director Kantharaju has reported a sight of a tigress with two cubs at Lakkavali range and another tiger at Tanigebailu.

The exact number of the tigers will be known after the officials analyse the images on camera trapping which will begin on January 15.
