Bengaluru: A woman was arrested by the Mico Layout police for stealing at least ten laptops from paying guest rooms and selling them for money.
The accused is identified as Shobha, aged 23, who was working in a firm in Bengaluru. Shobha was caught by the police while she was trying to sell a stolen laptop at a service centre.
Her modus operandi was targeting guest rooms and visiting them with an excuse of renting a room. She would choose a room with a laptop in it and tell the owner that she is willing to stay in that room. She would seek permission to stay in that room for a few days lying that she has an interview to attend. She would promise the owner to pay deposit and submit ID later. Once the owner agrees and leaves the room, she would steal the laptop and other valuables and sneak out of the accommodation.
The police have suspected that the accused made over Rs.4 lakh in three months by selling stolen goods. The Mico Layout police have recovered the laptops from the shops.
