Bengaluru: Cracker bursts in church kills 12 year old boy

Bengaluru: This horrific incident took place at Our Lady Lourdes Church premises on Sunday, 14t January at around 9 pm when a 12 year old boy who was watching firework display at an event during the St. Sebastian Festival died on spot when a rocket cracker fell and burst on his head.
The deceased is identified as Dhanush, 12, son of Suresh Kumar and Usha. The family resided at CK Achukattu. Dhanush was a student of Delhi Public school.
The St. Sebastian Association of the church organises a cracker bursting event every year in the second week of January on occasion of St. Sebastian Festival. Dhanush who loved crackers, like every year, went to watch the cracker bursting event at the church premises. He was accompanied by his parents. While watching the event, a cracker rocket fell on his head and burst. This caused severe damages to the child’s head and killed him on spot. Though he was immediately rushed to the hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead.
The Halsur police have registered a case against church authorities and members of the St. Sebastian Association for causing death due to negligence.
