Kempegowda International Airport’s second terminal to go green

Bengaluru: The ongoing second terminal construction near Kempegowda International Airport is going to be nature friendly and ravishingly green. The terminal work is being carried out in two phases and will ensure that the result will be a spacious terminal and nature friendly.
In the first phase, a building with an area of 2.54 lakh square metres will be built which can manage 2.50 crore passengers in a year and in the second phase a building with 4.41 lakh square metres will be built which can manage around 4.5 crore passengers. Priority will be given to greenery to keep up with the ‘Garden City’ title of Bengaluru. In the first phase, 90 counters will be built and in the second phase 213 counters will be built.
173 immigration counters will be there at the arrival area, out of which 113 counters will be built in the second phase. There will be 23 lanes to check passenger handbags and 25 belts to carry handbags. The second terminal would manage both international and domestic passengers.
The design stresses on less dependency on air conditioning system as there will be presence of natural ventilation and greenery. According to the expectations, after the completion of the project, the number of users is expected to increase up to 6.5 crore while compared to 2.5 crore in 2017.
