Bagalkote: Youths aspiring to join the Indian Army were forced to sleep on the streets of Bagalkote due to lack of proper facilities of accommodation.

Thousands of youth from various districts in the state participated in the three day recruitment rally which was organised at Navanagar District Stadium, Bagalkote. Youths from various districts including Vijayapur, Bagalkot, Gadag, Koppal and Raichur participated in the rally.

The army officials locked the main entrance to the stadium and the entry was permitted to the stadium only at the time of tests. The youths were forced to make accommodation on the streets as there were no other facilities being provided to them. The youths were found resting under trees, on pavements or outside the shops.

The incident has given rise to debates on the department’s negligence for not making arrangements for temporary stay for the ones who were wishing to serve the nation by being a part of the defense.

Previously, such incidents of mistreatment to the soldiers and cadets and the ones willing to join the army have been reported from several parts of the country.
