Bengaluru:  A 40 year old lady was killed by a leopard attack at Chikkasooligere, a village on the Savanadurga-Magadi Road in Ramanagaram district, on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Puttamma. She was returning home with her cattle when the leopard attacked her. The incident came to light when the villagers discovered Puttamma’s body.

According to sources in the Forest and Police departments, the leopard first attacked the cattle and when Puttamma tried to save the cattle by chasing away the leopard, it attacked her.

The villagers staged a protest at the spot against the Forest Department, demanding effective measures to prevent man-animal conflict. Forest personnel assured them of setting cages and trap the leopard.

Puttamma’s body was taken to the government hospital in Ramanagaram for post-mortem.
