Mangaluru: The district police have made it compulsory for two-wheeler riders to wear ISI certified helmets.
Addressing the media they said, “In the recent past, we have noticed some of the two wheeler riders wearing substandard helmets. The action comes in the wake of recent Supreme Court judgement making it compulsory for two wheeler riders to wear safe helmets. This rule will be enforced across the district, including villages.
The Police further mentioned that wearing substandard helmets causes serious security threats during accidents; sometimes it has lead to death.
These low quality head gears are usually purchased from vendors on road-sides. The riders and pillion riders should buy good quality helmets with ISI and BSI marks, the police advised.
The transport department had initiated action against road side vendors who sold below standard and fake helmets with ISI marks sticked on it unauthorisedly and action will be taken against both those wear it and sell it, especially on the road sides.
