Flower show and Farmers day to be held in Udupi

Udupi: Flower show and Farmers’ day will be celebrated at Doddanagudde here from February 10 to 12.
The Department of Horticulture will be organising the program at Flower Auction Centre in
Addressing media, Shivananda Kapashi, CEO of zilla panchayat, said that a 12-feet-high Shivalinga statue of roses will be at display. As many as 3,100 roses and 75 kg of marigold and chrysanthemums would be used in its making. A 5-feet-high Nandi statue made out of gerberas will be at display.
Statues of animals such as elephant, lions and butterflies with flowers will be at display.
The sculptors will use 4,000 carnations, 1,000 Peruvian lilies and 25 kg of marigolds and chrysanthemums for the creation. A vertical garden could also be seen at the venue.
Saplings of marigold, petunia, verbena, coleus, impatiens, celosia, gomphrena, dahlia, sunflower and other decorative flowers will be on display at the show.
Mattu Gulla and Udupi Mallige which has not been recognized and have the Geographical Indication tag will be displayed at the exhibition.
Exhibitors will also explain on terrace cultivation and explain on the importance of this. The exhibition will also show many vegetables grown in special pots with the organic fertilizer provided by the Solid and Liquid Resource Management Centres under the ‘Swachh Udupi’ Mission.
