Mandya: Another baby who was given ‘Pentavalent’ vaccination recently, died at Mandya Institute of Medical sciences. The incident took place on Monday night. The doctors, however, clarified that the death was due to Pneumonia and not the vaccination.

The deceased baby is Namratha, two-months of age. She was the daughter of Santhosh and Hema of Hadli village in Malavalli taluk. Namratha was given the ‘Pentavalent’ vaccination on February 8.

Previously, two babies had died due to the Pentavalent vaccination at Chindagiridoddi village in Malavalli taluk.

Nonetheless, District Health Officer Dr K Mohan discounted the possible outcomes of Pentavalent immunization being the reason for the death of the babies. Speaking to the media persons, he stated, the child was suffering from lung infection while she was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening. As private hospitals denied treatment, the parents brought the child to MIMS. The X-ray report revealed that the child had 80% lung infection and the parents were said the chance of the baby’s survival is very less. The child passed away on Monday night, he said.

As the parents did not allow the hospital authorities to conduct post-mortem, the body was handed over to them after getting an undertaking. Pentavalent is a vaccination that is given to babies across the country and does not cause death. There is no need for the parents to worry about its administration, he clarified.
