Bengaluru: Bengaluru District Youth Congress General Secretary Mohammad Harris Nalapad, who had brutally assaulted a youth in a restaurant at UB city surrendered to the Cubbonpark police on Monday.

The Congressman was absconding after the attack for almost 37 hours. Prior to his surrender, he is said to be hiding in a five-star hotel in the city but the police had failed to trace him. He was expelled from the party for six years immediately after the news of the assault was on air.

Mohammed Nalapad is the son of Congress MLA NA Harris who is a two time MLA from Shanthinagar and who is reportedly said to be a close associate to Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

On account of dereliction of duty in this assault case of Mohammed Nalapad, a police inspector was suspended on Sunday.  This comes after five persons were detained and an FIR was registered against Harris Nalapad and 10 others for beating and threatening a man at a restaurant in Bengaluru.

Mohammed Nalapad and his friends had allegedly trashed a youth named Vidwath, who already had fractured his leg. The group got into a heated argument and brutally assaulted Vidwath. They even followed him to the hospital and started beating him up there and threatened him. Vidwath is presently undergoing treatment at Mallya Hospital.
