Bengaluru: BJP legislator Lahar Singh on Friday, with regret about the growing narcotics mafia in Bengaluru said that the state government should immediately break down on the drug threat in Karnataka.

Singh has been hunting the issue for some years now, he said that even children as young as 11 and 12 years are getting exposed and addicted to narcotics like ganja in Bengaluru.

Speaking to the reporters he informed that a recent NIMHANS report stated as many as five to six children came to the clinic every week for de-addiction. He said “we cannot let our state become Udta Karanataka” making a comparison with the Hindi film Udta Punjab which portrays drug abuse by the youth in the country.

Singh also referred to the recent assault by the Congress MLA’s son Mohammed Nalapad on Vidwath could be under the influence of narcotics. He said such ruthless behaviour can be done only under the influence of narcotics.

Narcotic substances are being sold near U B City at several places and he (Singh) had brought it to the notice of the police, the BJP MLC said.

Singh said as a legislator he had raised the narcotics issue several times in the Legislative Council but there had been no response from the state government.
