Hubballi: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar said that it isn’t sufficient for the state government to make new taluks, but additionally providing funds for their advancement is also important.

Speaking at the inauguration of Annageri as a new taluk, he said that there was no proposition to make Annageri a different taluk in the Gaddigowdara, Hundekara and Prakash committees.

“When I was Chief Minister I had endorsed the development of 43 new taluks including Annegeri and Alanvara. I had endorsed Rs 2 crore each for these taluks. The state government which had been quiet on the issue till now has acted as a result of upcoming elections and made this taluk in a rush,” Shettar said.

Alongside the tahsildar’s office, social welfare office and a taluk hospital also need to be provided for the new taluk, he added.
