Bengaluru: The upcoming Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for this week as the filing of the nomination for four seats to Upper House of Parliament from Karnataka opened on Monday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued the opening for the elections on March 23. Starting at now, it is probably not going to be a consistent poll. The JD(S) proclaimed that it will compete in the elections despite the fact that it is short in numbers to win even a solitary seat. The Congress, on the opposite end, adhered to it does remain of handling the third candidate.

Individuals from the Legislative Assembly frame the electoral school for the Rajya Sabha elections. A candidate requires around 44 votes to win the surveys. In the Assembly, the Congress has 122 MLAs on its side. In spite of the fact that the JD(S) has 37 MLAs, seven of its revolutionary MLAs have vowed support to the Congress. The Congress is planning to win the third seat with the assistance of the seven JD(S) revolutionaries and some independents. The BJP with 46 MLAs can win one seat.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will leave for New Delhi on Tuesday to have a talk with the party high order to finalise Congress competitors. Addressing columnists in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah striked out holding chats with the JD(S) for the third seat.

Siddaramaiah’s stand has not run down well with the JD(S). The JD(S) state leader H D Kumaraswamy hit back at the Congress, expressing that his party was not subject to the decision of Congress to help win the elections.

Speaking to the reporters, Kumaraswamy stated, “great – let them (Congress) proceed. We have no expectations with respect to the Congress. We are not in any case interested. Without fail, we will field a candidate. Our party president (H D Deve Gowda) has officially declared that we will battle the elections.”

The party, which has chosen to field businessperson B M Farooq, is however as yet sticking expectations on the Congress high order for guidance. It has asked its party Rajya Sabha MP Kupendra Reddy to hold negotiations with the Congress central leaders. “We have requested that Kupendra Reddy hold talks at the Delhi level. On the off chance that they are intrigued, at that point it is alright. On the off chance that they are not, we will abandon it,” said Kumaraswamy.

The rundown of applicants in the Congress is long. Former Lok Sabha Speakers Shivraj Patil and Meira Kumar are said to seek to compete. Senior leaders including Shamanur Shivashankarappa, S R Patil, Veeranna Mattikatti, Rani Satish and Allamm Prabhu Patil are likewise in the polls.

The BJP Parliamentary Board, which will meet in New Delhi, will settle on the party candidates. Two names are doing the rounds, two-term Independent MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar and former Lok Sabha member Vijay Sankeshwar.

Parties have one week to finalize their candidates March 12 being the last date for recording nominations.
