Death of a married woman who attempted suicide

Modyantharu: A married woman from Turkalike near Tannirupanta in Belthangady, died at a hospital In Mangaluru on Saturday night. She had previously attempted to commit suicide by dousing herself in kersone and setting fire. Though the attempt wasn’t successful, she failed to respond to the treatment provided and succumbed to her injuries.
The victim has been identified as Harshiya Banu (20), from Turkalike Gundi house. Harassment meted on her by her husband’s family forced her to take this grave step. She is survived by a son who is a year and a half old.
Three years back, Harshiya had married Asif of Kamblabettu near Munnuru village and was residing with him along with his parents. Within three months of her marriage, she gave a complaint to the police claiming that her husband, his parents along with all the members in the house where harassing her.
A case has been registered at Punjalkatte police station against the husband Asif, mother-in-law Ameena, father-in-law Riyaz and others including Aysha, Noor Jahan and Sattar.
