Bengaluru: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Navayuga Devanahalli Toll Plaza Ltd (NDTPL) will start gathering toll for vehicles going towards the Kempegowda International Airport in the following couple of days.

Till now the vehicles which were coming back from the airport paid the toll, henceforth the vehicles going towards the airport will also pay toll.

NHAI project director R K Suryawansi said that new toll corners would be set up at the entry point. He also informed that the toll booths will become operational in another two days.

The idea was set up initially where the toll booths were introduced on both the sides. but they had to drop the toll booths towards the airport because of increasing traffic jams. Few people even missed the flights because of the traffic jams.

The NDTPL authorities complained that they were losing income after the state government opened toll free roads. Amarnath Reddy, NDTPL manager, disclosed that they were losing almost Rs 20 lakh every day after the alternative road was opened.

Some vehicles enter the toll street and exit from the alternate road to abstain from paying the toll.

Reddy said that they are intending to obstruct the road towards Begur from Sadahalli Gate on NH-7 as vehicles can come till the last signal on the toll road and take a right turn to touch the alternate road to reach the airport and the city.

BIAL representative said the alternate road isn’t officially opened yet however the road was opened for traffic after taxi drivers held a protest soon after the Chief Minister inaugurated it.
