No power cuts in summer: DK Shivkumar

Bengaluru: Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Monday said the State won’t have power cuts in summer as the State had sufficient energy to deal with the peak demands in the summer.

Speaking to the reporters he said that courses of action had been made to get an extra 900 MW of energy through tendering process for the summer.

He blamed the current spate of power cuts in Bengaluru due to harm to power cables by different utilities, for example, the BBMP, BMRCL, and BWWSB. He charged that they had not taken authorization from the power utility for their work, which brought about harm to the cables.

The Energy Department had now issued strict guidelines against conceding line clearance for any such works till the end of summer, he said.

He propelled a counter-attack on Union HRD Minister and Karnataka BJP’s election in-charge Prakash Javadekar, who had as of late charged that the State was encountering extended periods of power cuts. Shivakumar asserted that the Centre had now crossed out State’s leases for two coal mines, implied for its thermal power plants. Rather than making false claims, Javadekar should take a gander at persuading the Centre to turn around its choice on coal mines, he said.
