Mysuru: A worker of the Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens (Mysuru zoo), who was attacked by a crocodile after accidentally slipping into a crocodile enclosure on Tuesday, lost three toes of his right leg.
The victim Puttaswamy, is a resident of Srirampura, in the city. The incident happened while he was cleaning the enclosure. He accidentally fell on the crocodile, which has lost its vision. The crocodile is said to have been startled and attacked Puttaswamy. Other workers of the zoo chased away the crocodile and saved Puttaswamy. He was then taken to a private hospital where he was under treatment. Three toes on his right leg were completely crushed. He was advised to undergo a surgery.
The authorities of the zoo said that the surgery on Puttaswamy was successful and the doctors have asked Puttaswamy to rest for another 15 days.
The authorities said “When the Mishap took place; there were three animal keepers and a supervisor. Puttaswamy has been serving the zoo for three years now. A similar incident had happened seven years ago when a leopard had attacked a an animal keeper,”
