International driving licence book to be replaced by Smart card

Bengaluru: The Transport division is good to go to supplant the booklet authorising the international driving licence (IDL) with a smart card.
Individuals traveling to another country on visit or business and in addition those pursuing education look for international driving permit. The office issues a booklet – of the size of a passport – as license document.
Authorities said since travelling abroad requires conveying numerous documents, the office has chosen to diminish some portion of the weight through the smart card. RTO authorities had sent a proposal to the transport secretary after numerous individuals recommended the smart card.
The proposal was recently approved. Transport Commissioner B Dayananda said “We had plans to begin the smart card program with a formal occasion in March end. Since the set of accepted rules is set up, we will look for the authorization of the elected commission authorities and begin issuing the DLs,”
He said the IDL card is a part of the office’s efforts to digitalise its whole tasks. “We are now issuing smart cards for driving permit and registration certificate,”
The IDL can be acquired by any individual who has a driving license from any RTO in the state gave the individual clears the test. Visa and passport records are required for the application.
“The IDL causes the individuals who remain abroad and obtain a permanent DL. We are charging Rs 1,000 for an IDL. The choice on extra charge for the smart card will be taken relying upon the demand,” he said.
