Poll code violation: Rs.1.12cr in cash seized by Election Commission

Bengaluru: Police check-posts have been set up in various parts of Bengaluru and its outskirts as the model code of conduct is in force. Also many seizures of alleged freebies in the state have occurred. Nine FIR’s have so far been lodged for attempt to induce electors.

The seized items include 160 laptops, 10 saris and Rs. 86 lacs in cash. Altogether Rs. 1.12 crore in cash, gold worth Rs. 49.17 lacs and 18 saris have been seized so far.

A car was transporting the gold in the form of small jewellery, including ear and nose studs, rings and dollars, informed the police. The consignment was found when the car was stopped for a random check at the check-post in Balepura village in Devanahalli. The driver failed to produce documents and a packet of eight saris was also seized, said the police.

 On Saturday, the vigilance squad of the election commission seized a huge consignment of pressure cookers and tawas, bearing the photograph of Muniratna, Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA. Also, 90 boxes of cookers and tawas were seized from a house in Lakshmidevi Nagar in Laggere. Additionally, four boxes of sari were also seized, inform sources.

500 sewing machines meant to be distributed to voters in Mahadevapura were also seized by the election officials. However, officials are yet to ascertain to which party or candidate these boxes belong to.

704 liters of liquor and 30 heinous cases have been booked by the Excise Department. 3,823 non-bailable warrants have been executed and 2,230 preventive actions have been initiated, said the press release from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
