EXAM SPECIAL: Reward yourself
Team Udayavani, Apr 2, 2018, 1:35 PM IST
During my early days, I used to wait eagerly for exams to get over, so that I can read my novels. For me books were more precious than anything else, nothing furthermore appealed to me. I even used novels to motivate myself to finish the revisions during revision holidays. Now you will be wondering, how novels motivated me to finish my revisions, right?
It’s very simple; I used to reward myself with one chapter from the novel after every 45 minutes of focused study (my Pomodoro technique during schooldays!) You too can use this technique to motivate yourself to complete your revision. Just allow yourself to indulge in reading books by your favourite author, browsing your favourite website, watching your much-loved TV channel for a while, after studying for 45 minutes or an hour.
Though this technique looks silly to many, it works because this technique helps you to be more cheerful while studying any subject which you hate or find boring. This technique also works in the corporate world, wherein professionals set a reward by going for a lunch to a nearby restaurant with their friends or colleagues on reaching certain milestone or deadlines of a project.
Once you get familiar with this technique, you will be surprised to see how this amusing self-discipline can help you to achieve more. One way of achieving this, is by arranging your work into a series of small challenges, once you complete it or reach a certain milestone within the pre-determined time, reward yourself and also enjoy the feeling of joy and accomplishment.
Students, please remember this technique of rewarding oneself not only motivates you to finish your studies or get homework done, but also will help you to develop or create new constructive habits in your life.
As exams are about to get over, plan your rewards to pamper yourself and do remember to enjoy every bit of it.
I too need to reward myself now with a good break. See you soon with a different and exhilarating subject.
Until next time.
