Convicted man hangs himself in prison

Bengaluru: A 36-year-old man who was convicted for killing his wife apparently committed suicide on thursday in the Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara in South Bengaluru.
The deceased has been identified as Mahesh alias Masthi Kumar, from Kalkere town of Shivamogga. He was found hanging with a towel attached to a window grille in the music corridor in Barrack ‘A’ around 9 pm. His body was found in a standing position.
Jail authorities had gone searching for him after he disappeared from his cell in the jail’s Barrack ‘B’.
On Thursday night, the gates of Barrack ‘A’ were shut and every one of the convicts came back to their separate cells. A couple of detainees discovered Kumar missing. They at that point informed the jail warden.
Barrack ‘A’ likewise houses a training centre, a gym, a wheelchair-manufacturing unit, a library, a yoga room and a prayer hall. It is kept open from 7 am to 6 pm for the utilization of convicts.
Kumar was taken to the prison hospital where he was proclaimed brought dead. His body was then moved to the Victoria Hospital for post mortem. The jurisdictional Parappana Agrahara police have enlisted a case of unnatural death and are anticipating the post mortem report.
Jail authorities said Kumar was not seen depressed as he typically blended with other convicts and seemed ordinary. He was arrested in 2015 and condemned to life detainment in 2017.
