Within hours of announcement of candidates, BJP’s first list triggers discontent

Bengaluru: Hours after the BJP declared its first list of candidates for the upcoming elections contradicting voices were heard inside the party on the ticket allotment. 

N R Ramesh, a ticket aspirant from Chikkapete constituency has missed a great opportunity for ticket in the main list. Hours after the gathering discharged the list, supporters of Ramesh protested before senior BJP leader R Ashok’s residence.

The protesters raised slogans like ‘traitor’ against R Ashok. They additionally cautioned him that if the party fails to give him the ticket, he would challenge as an independent candidate and win. Businessman Garudachar has won the Chikkapete ticket from the BJP. 

In Shiggao-Savanur body electorate in Haveri as well, the BJP is confronting discontent where it has chosen to offer ticket to present MLA Basavaraj Bommayi. Another applicant and Vidhana Parishad member Somanna Bevinamarad has declared that he would challenge as an independent candidate. Somanna is a close associate of senior leader K S Eshwarappa. 

The BJP on Sunday April 8 declared the first of contender for the significant Karnataka Assembly polls. The main list has names of candidates for 72 of the 224 constituency. The list was announced after a meeting of the BJP’s central election commission committee at the party’s headquarter in Delhi.
