Bagalkote: The Karnataka State Yuva Ganiga Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha leader and former information commissioner Dr Shekhar Sajjan on Monday said that the Sangha was against the inclusion of the Ganiga community under the different Lingayat religion as conceived by the legislature.
Addressing the media, he said they were Hindu Ganigas and take after some Lingayat ceremonies. “We are not Lingayat Ganigas at all. We don’t have anything to do with the interest for a different religion tag to the Lingayat-Veerashaiva people group,” he cleared up. A notice would be issued to the advocate general on the issue, Sajjan said.
As indicated by the Havanur committee proposals, the Ganiga community falls under 2A group . As the group as of now appreciates the advantage of reservation, they would prefer not to join the Lingayat community and lose it, Sajjan said.
