Driver who mowed down football player arrested

Bengaluru: An Ola taxi driver was arrested on Tuesday for running over a football player.

Ranga Reddy (35), a resident of Electronics City, had been absconding since the incident on Sunday, the police said. 

The Banashankari traffic police arrested the driver in view of the footage captured by a CCTV camera of his car. 

N D Tejaswini, who hailed from Arkalgud in Hassan area, was working at asiftware company in Marathhalli. She was on he way back to her home on a bike with her cousin when the taxicab hit their vehicle on the Outer Ring Road at Nayandahalli. She was thrown out from the bike and fell under the wheels of the car. 

Tejaswini was admitted to a hospital, where she didn’t respond  to treatment and succumbed to wounds the next day. 

“The car has been enrolled under an alternate name. The accused driver took the vehicle on lease and labeled with Ola a year back. He used to drive in the city and drive to his home through Outer Ring Road. The mishap happened when he was heading home and he didn’t stop the car,” police said.
