Bengaluru: Prabhuling K Navadgi, Additional Solicitor General on Friday submitted under the steady gaze of the High Court of Karnataka that the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs had gotten the letter as to the demand to consider conceding minority religion status to the Lingayat community.

Navadgi told a division headed by Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari that the ministry has given over the demand to the Ministry of Home Affairs since grouping of any section of the population as a religion is done by the Registrar General of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs with the end goal of the census.

He additionally expressed that the issue at present is being analyzed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and included that the further procedures will require significant time because of the nature of issues associated with the matter. The court dismissed the issue for hearing to June 19.
