Rs 22 crore illegal cash seized in state after announcement of election date

Bengaluru: The Election Commission squads and police authorities have seized over Rs 22 crore illegal money since the model code of conduct was placed in constrain on March 27 in Karnataka.

CEO Sanjiv Kumar said “The EC officials and police officers have so far seized money over Rs 22.34 crore, other than 7.5 kg gold ornaments valued at Rs 1.76 crore, silver worth over Rs 12 lakh, 10 sarees and 160 PCs, among different things, for infringement of the model code of conduct for the May 12 state assembly elections,” 

The Excise Department has so far seized 33,829 liters of alcohol from the state, esteemed at about Rs 1.67 crore. The Department has likewise filed 678 offensive cases, 1,042 cases for breach of license conditions and 1,590 different cases under the Karnataka Excise Act.

An aggregate of 67,037 arms have been deposited with the authorities since the enforcement of the poll code, which bans carrying of authorized arms amid the model code period. 

A sum of 1,156 flying squads and 1,255 surveillance teams have been set up in the state so far to guarantee the code of conduct is adhered to.
