Poll timings by an hour by the Election Commission

Bengaluru: The Election Commission has extended the poll timings by one hour over all constituency in the State after dread of lower voter turnout attributable to outrageous weather conditions in a few areas. The State Assembly surveys will now be held between 7 a.m. what’s more, 6 p.m. on May 12. 

A gazette notification issued in such manner additionally refers to the presentation of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), aside from the outrageous weather conditions in the State now, as the reason for the extension of timings. 

“After receiving recommendations on extension of timings of the poll, we had sent the proposition to the Election Commission, which has extended the timings by 60 minutes,” Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar told presspersons here on Thursday. 

When the elections were declared by the commission, parties and in addition people had looked for expansion of time since outrageous weather conditions prevail in the State amid May, and particularly in north Karnataka.
