Haveri: With the Assembly decision in Karnataka coming near, a young couple from Haveri’s Hangal has their wedding invitation designed like a Voter Identity Card to encourage voting in the state in front of the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 on May 12.
The couple, Siddappa Doddachikkannanavar and Jyothi, will get married on April 27. Siddappa, a railway worker in Goa and a social activist from Haveri area, has likewise invited the District Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police to their marriage with their voter ID-like wedding card.
Speaking to the media Siddappa said “I wanted something unique at my wedding to create awareness about Karnataka elections and when I approached my friend Karibasappa Gondi about this, he advised me to take this plan further and encourage the public to vote. From that point onward, we designed my wedding card like a Voter ID by including similar fonts and style,”
Before printing their wedding cards, the couple took authorization from the District Collector to print the voter ID-like marriage invitations.
The wedding card includes the couple’s picture in the place of voter’s passport size photograph, marriage date and a message – “Your vote is valuable” to encourage people to turn out and vote. As per reports, Siddappa and Jyothi printed about 1,200 wedding cards to invite people, friends, and relatives. The couple was applauded for their novel step to promote and encourage voting.
