Policeman held for giving protection to illegal sand business

Hassan: A police constable who was supporting illegal sand transportation was arrested. The accused cop happens to be Kumar, head constable of Belur police station.
It is said that when the officials ceased a tipper that was transporting sand illegally at the check post in the evening of Friday April 20, Kumar, who was seated inside the tipper, behaved rudely with the officers. Tipper driver, Devaraju, too stands booked and arrested.
Even after the officers flagged the said tipper to stop, the driver attempted to drive away. Purportedly, when the driver slowed down the vehicle at the check post, Kumar, who was inside, told the driver to race ahead. The driver, who was confused stopped the tipper and attempted to escape. WPersonnel on duty at the check post, revenue inspectors, Kantaraj, and Udeep, arrested the driver.
Tahsildar, Umesh, said in his complaint that head constable, Kumar, who was inside the tipper behaved rudely with him even after he presented himself as the tahsildar. He said he later asked Halebeedu police to register case, noting that Kumar, being in a responsible position, was not expected to break the law and support illegal sand business. He felt that the way that Kumar was accompanying the tipper carrying sand regardless of staying alert that a check post is working in transit, focuses to the likelihood of him enjoying such things since long.
Tipper driver, Devaraju, admitted that Kumar was the one requesting that he transport sand. The tipper was owned by Puttaswamy from Byadigere. Halebeedu police have enrolled a case and produced the accused before the court.
