1,127 nominations for Karnataka Assembly elections

Bengaluru: The Election Commission (EC) had gotten 1,127 nomination for the May 12 Karnataka Assembly elections till Monday.
Of these, 174 were recorded by Congress, 178 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 141 from the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), 457 independents and the staying from different parties and regional outfits.
According to an official notice issued on April 17, the last date for documenting nominations for the 224 Assembly constituencies is Tuesday (April 24). The last date for withdrawal of designations is April 27. Voting will be held on May 12, and counting will be done on May 15.
The individuals who recorded nominations on Monday included Congress state unit president G. Parameshwara from Koratagere in Tumakuru , Congress leader and Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George from Sarvagnanagar in east Bengaluru and sitting BJP MLA Aravind Limbavali from Mahadevapura.
The nominations are acknowledged between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. everyday and general classification applicants pay a deposit of Rs 10,000 alongside survey testimonies while competitors from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes deposit Rs 5,000 each.
Of the 224 Assembly portions, 36 are held for SCs and 15 for STs.
