Congress woos Bengaluru voters with Rs 1 lakh crore for city’s infrastructure

Bengaluru: With a devoted statement for India’s tech center, Bengaluru district, the Congress on promised to spend Rs 1 lakh crore on building up the city’s infrastructure. 

“We will guarantee that a world class infrastructure is made in Bengaluru with a fund of Rs 1 lakh-crore from the state and Central governments to make the city qualified for as the second capital of India,” read the manifesto for Bengaluru district. 

The manifesto was discharged here on Saturday by Sam Pitroda, the former Advisor to ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. 

The Congress said it would set up a city ombudsman office to address every single community issue, and make improvement and restoration of city’s lakes. 

While more than 262 water bodies existed in the city till 1960s, fast urbanization has cut down their number to around 80, of which just 34 are perceived as live lakes, as per the state government’s data. 

“We will make all the current lakes pollution free in the coming five years,” it pledged. 

The party likewise said it would set up a Metropolitan Planning Committee to screen the development of the state capital and the towns encompassing it. 

The proclamation specified that the party would build more roads, flyovers, 2,000km of tracks and extend the city’s roads, which are gagged with vehicular activity amid the surge hours. The party, however, did not mention the exact expenditure it plans to commit for the development of roads, flyovers and the like.

The Congress additionally plans to manufacture underground lanes to decongest the city’s movement on the lines of Delhi Metro underground line, as per the statement. 

In an offer to regain control in the election bound state, the party had pledged to make one crore employments across Karnataka in its statement, discharged by party President Rahul Gandhi on Friday in the port city of Mangaluru.

Data Technology (IT) would be made an essential driver of the state’s economy by expanding the field’s commitment from the current $60 billion to $300 billion, the party said.
