Bengaluru: Jet Airways was pulled up, not once but twice in a week by a Bengaluru consumer court after it overcharged a flyer for economy class seats and in another case, lost a passenger’s luggage. Both victims were awarded compensation for the company’s sloppy service.

Jet Airways has been charged by a Bengaluru consumer court twice, in the same week, once for overcharging a customer for economy class tickets and the other, for losing a passenger’s luggage. Both the customers were compensated for their loss.

Bhairav Shanth is a resident of Koramangala who holds a privilege card in Jet Airways owing to his frequent trips. On October 6, 2015, he booked premiere tickets from Dubai to Mumbai, Mumbai to Colombo and Delhi to Dubai. But all the tickets, which were worth over Rs 85000, turned out to be economy class tickets instead of premiere.

Mr.Bhairav tried to talk to the manager of the airline call centre in Dubai, but his call was repeatedly put on hold which incurred him a heavy ISD fee on his cellphone. Since all his calls, emails and complaints were unanswered, he went to the Bangalore Urban II Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum on March 9, 2016. He produced screenshots from his mobile phone and emails of the tickets as evidence against Jet Airways.

After a period of two years, the court charged the airlines for sloppy service and ordered it to refund the Bhairav Shanth for the extra fare that received.

In another verdict by the consumer court, the airlines had to pay an amount of Rs 16,415 to R Sankaranarayanan as compensation for losing his baggage. The banker had complained on July 7, 2016,  that his bag had gone missing during his Bengaluru-Mumbai flight, since the bag was not tagged appropriately after he landed in Mumbai.
