Mangaluru: Ramakrishna Mission Swachhta Abhiyan’s 29th Shramadaan worked on Hampanakatte and its surroundings on Sunday.
The work started off in front of Milagres Church, and the drive continued with volunteers being divided into four groups. One group cleaned road dividers near Hampanakatte Circle and surrounding areas; students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy comprised another group and cleaned both sides of Milagres- Attavara Road.
A third group removed posters pasted at the Milagres bus shelter and the final group cleaned the place in front of Islamic Trust Complex. Volunteers also removed sand and muck on footpaths to facilitate easy movement for pedestrians.
A black spot on V.T. Road that had been cleaned by volunteers earlier was beautified with civil repair works using stones and plastering.
Volunteers cleared another spot on the corner of Milagres-Attavara Road, next to IMA Building, where loads of garbage and construction debris was dumped. With the help of an earthmover they cleared three tipper-loads of dirt from this location.
They also cleaned road divider railings between Hampanakatte and Light House Hill Road, getting rid of illegal advertisements and posters. The railings were later given a fresh coat of paint.
Members of Nivedita Balaga and students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy visited several households and shops in Milagres Church, Hampankatte, and surrounding areas distributing awareness handbills and urging them to keep the area clean.
