Shivamogga: The BJP manifesto for Shivamogga district has made the promise of better transportation and industrial infrastructure. If the party comes to power, it would resume the airport project at Sogane on the outskirts of the city, for which 670 acres of land was acquired by the State Government in 2009. The party has also promised to complete the railway link between Shivamogga and Shikaripur, through Ranebennur. It would also build a railway line linking Talaguppa in Shivamogga district and Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district, which has been a demand of the people for a long time.
The manifesto was titled “Namma Sankalpa” and was released by K.S. Eshwarappa, former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate for the Shivamogga segment and S. Rudre Gowda, president of the party’s district unit. Mr. Eshwarappa spoke about the promise of providing title deeds for slum-dwellers in Shivamogga city, on the land where they had constructed their houses. Mr. Gowda promised that the BJP will revive the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant and the Mysore Paper Mills, if it comes to power.
