Bengaluru: Around 4000 people were desolated when a foot bridge connecting Isro Colony slum and Cambridge Layout, collapsed on Tuesday due to the excessive weight of an election campaign party that had come to seek votes. The metal bridge which was built over a storm water drain was 3.5ft wide and 52ft long. It was the only way out of the slum which housed almost 450 shacks.

The incident occurred at around 9 am injuring many, including a two year old child. The women and children of the slum were the most affected, as were the students who had to attend classes. The residents tried to put together another bridge over it using boards and doors, for those brave enough to use it. Along with the bridge, a pipeline supplying water from a borewell also was destroyed.
