Lucknow: Two more newly elected members of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council today took oath, a day after 10 MLCs were sworn in by Chairman Ramesh Yadav. Those who took oath today are Naresh Uttam (SP) and Bhimrao Ambedkar (BSP).

Uttam is the state SP president. Another newly elected MLC Mahendra Singh (BJP) is yet to take oath. All of them were elected in the biennial elections to fill 13 vacant seats last month.

Singh, who is a UP minister, is away in Karnataka on electioneering and may take oath at a later date. After today’s oath BJP has 20 members in the 100-member House and is still far short of the half-way mark to ensure smooth passage of bills. The SP has 56 members, BSP 9 and Congress two.
