Millenial voters flood social media

Mangaluru: “I voted for the first time, Voted for a better country, I am a responsible citizen, I voted for acandidate I liked…” these are a few messages by millenials apart from loads of pictures of inked fingersthat took over social media on Saturday.

Millennials flaunted their ink mark on their fingers after casting their first vote. Dakshina Kannada district has 39,999 millennial voters. Chethana is one among them. A first-year degree student,

Chethana said her single vote will make a difference in the assembly election results.

Millenials made sure they broadcasted that they were good citizens who voted and played an active part in our democracy. Bantwal has the highest number of millennials in Dakshina Kannada i.e, 6,063, followed by Mangaluru City North.

Journalism student Vaishnavi Karnik said, “It was my long-time wish to vote, and today it came true. What is more exciting was that I am a millennial voter.”

Another young voter wished to see a government that becomes a voice of the youth, and generates more job opportunities.

However all first-time voters were not youngsters. Pearl Tauro, a bank official voted for the first time on Saturday, “All these years I did not get the opportunity to vote, as I was away due to work, but today I got my finger inked. I feel happy that I am responsible for choosing an eligible candidate in my constituency, for a better Mangaluru.”

Shirva’s Alphonse Mendonca, 50, was a first-time voter this assembly elections. He worked overseas for many years and could never be here for elections. He too posted a picture of his inked finger online after the election.
