Mysuru: Mysuru has won the ‘Cleanest Medium City’ tag among cities with a population of three to ten lakh. The city has held the top spot in this category for the fourth consecutive year under Swachh Survekshan 2018.
Awareness initiatives along with participation from citizens have increased the atmosphere of cleanliness in the city. The Swachh Survekshan team visited the city in February and observed the cleanliness drives initiated by the civic agencies. They also verified documents of the projects undertaken to maintain the cleanliness of the city. The team also conducted a survey to check whether the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) was employing door-to-door waste collection, set up waste-to-compost conversion units, individual toilets, public toilets and other hygienic measures.
The Central Government has conducted the Swachh Survekshan for three years, and in the first two years, Mysuru bagged the top spot. Only last year, it dipped to the fifth position. MCC immediately initiated cleanliness campaigns involving institutions, NGOs and resident welfare associations. It also called on celebrities and eminent personalities like cricketer Javagal Srinath, Mysuru royal family members Yaduveer Krishnadatta Wadiyar and Pramoda Devi Wadiyar to promote its initiatives.
