17 Tulu movies ready in Coastalwood

Mangaluru: “Appe Teacher” has successfully earned enough marks in the chapter of Karavali’s Tulu cinema industry. Therefore definitely, there is future for Tulu cinema industry here. In this mood, there are even more movies waiting to be released.
May 18th witnessed the release of “Pettkammi” which has created a new expectation in Coastalwood. This movie will be followed by the release of many more movies hurriedly waiting for their chance. But, none have announced their release date.
Currently, “Appe Teacher” has gained enough market in Coastalwood and has spread out into other districts. The present calculation is that, in the same model, new movies can also become this attractive.
S.R.Rajan, who developed contact with the people of Karavali by blending in with the people of Mangaluru released the first ever Tulu movie ‘Enna Tangadi’ in 1971. The Tulu movie industry that began from here has already witnessed many movies and even more movies are in queue. If more or less, all the movies get released this year, Coastalwood will definitely celebrate its reaching the milestone of a century.
Tulu cinema has reached its 47th year of existence. With the release of every new movie, Tulu film industry is steadily moving forward. After crossing the milestone of the silver, ruby, gold, diamond and platinum jubilee, the Tulu film industry has reached at the edge of tipping into its centenary celebrations.
By the by, the first Tulu film “Enna Tangadi” which was released in 1971 was released at Jyothi talkies in Mangaluru. In 2014, “Bhramashree Narayanaguru Swami” movie released at Jyothi talkies marking the 50th anniversary of Tulu film industry.
In the initial 10 years of the industry, 17 Tulu movies got released. Later, the pace reduced with a realse of only 15 movies in a span of 20 years likening it to the pace of a tortoise. This was followed by 5 years of inactivity in the industry with no release, post which the industry reawakened in 2006.
Up till 2013, 14 Tulu movies got released and “Panoda Bodcha” marked the 75th release anniversary of a Tulu film. What is special is that it took 44 years to release 50 movies. But, within a span of 2-3 years, close to 30 Tulu movies got released.
Many movies await release
Many days have passed since the culmination of shooting and dubbing of “Ammer Police” movie directed by Sooraj. Therefore, this movie will be released subject to a good day. Similarly, many other Tulu movies await their release including, “My name is Annappe”, “Umil”, “Dagalbaji”, “Karne”, “Pammanne the Great”, “Jugari”, “Katpadi Katappe”, “Golmaal”, “Era Uller”, “Kambalabettu Bhatrena Magalur”, “Deyi Beidyati”, “Paddayi”, “Karnikeda Kallurti”, “Yekkuru, Gant Kalver” and “Kori Rotti”. It is yet to be learnt, which will be released first and which will be the last.
“Ramakrishnagovinda” in Kudla
Ashwini Kotiyan (Chaya Harsha) became the first female director in the Tulu industry after directing and releasing her first movie “Namma Kudla”. She is now ready to direct her second Tulu movie.
The movie titled “Ramakrishnagovinda” will soon hit the sets. The cast of the movie has many artists including Prakash Dharmanagara and Anoop Sagar. Her first movie “Namma Kudla” was a mass movie. The story and script is by Prakash Shetty Dharmanagara. The movie is produced by Chakravarti and the camera work will be done by Naveen Sunag. The movie is expected to be shot in September.
Saurabh second entry!
Saurabh Bhandary, who gained a lot of attention in Coastalwood through “Ambara Caterers”, will be seen again in a Tulu movie. Another movie being produced by Suresh Bhandary will hit the sets soon.
Harish Kottadi will pen the story and script but the director for the film has not yet been decided upon. But, there is a possibility that the first look of the movie will be released soon. Prominent actors of Tulu will act in this movie. Saurabh has his own business after completing MBA and is very interested in creative works. His father Suresh Bhandary wants to support his sons dream and has become the producer of the movie in which Sourabh will act as the hero.
Mosquito will fly in August
“Umil” is the first graphics movie in Tulu industry being produced under the banner of Bhavani Film Makers will release in August. The animation in the movie has been done in Canada and is currently being composited in Mangaluru.
It is being said that the release of the movie was delayed due to the work on graphics. The movie’s direction, story, screenplay and dialogue are by Ranjit Suvarna and has been produced by Karunakara Shetty, Pragnesh Shetty and Prajwal Shetty. Cinematography is by Pavan Karkera, music by Ravi Barsuru and compilation by Harish Kottadi.
Umesh Mijar is the debutant lead actor in this movie and Pooja Shetty is the actress. The cast include Naveen D. Padil, Arvinda Bolar, Bojaraj Vamanjoor, Satish Bandale, Sitaram Kateel, Deepak Rai, Chetan Rai, Prakash Tuminad, Ranjan Boluru, Sharan Kaikamba, Praveen Markame, Shanti Shenoy, Pratima Nayak and Chandrahas Kadri.
