Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar promised to conduct an inquiry into allegations of short-changing at fuel outlets in the city on Friday, May 18th.

During the weekly phone-in programme, a caller complained that many fuel outlets in the city short- change supply of diesel and petrol. Kumar said he’d seek the help of legal meteorology to conduct an investigation into the charges.

Another caller demanded that speed breakers must be erected on main roads, including the Circuit

House to Bejai, Bavutagudde Road stretches. Kumar reminded the caller that Lokayukta has ordered an inquiry into the issue of erecting speed breakers.

One caller complained about how it was difficult for pedestrians to walk along roads or crossroads because of speeding vehicles. The Commissioner said the department would undertake a survey of vulnerable locations and either arrange scientific speed breakers or make alternative arrangements.

Another woman called to complain that wayside bus shelters have not been built to meet the requirement of the public in areas like Baikampady. A few others complained about continued rude behavior by the bus crew. Kumar said he would discuss the issue of bus shelters with Mangaluru City Corporation and promised to take strict action against bus crew.

Another caller said that many private establishments in the city have ‘no parking’ boards installed in front of their premises which stand next to public roads. The caller informed how this prevents the general public from parking their vehicles. Promising a solution, Kumar instructed Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manjunatha Shetty to conduct a survey of such locations and get boards if any, removed. Responding to another complaint, he instructed traffic police to book vehicle drivers using strong headlights within city limits.

One caller brought to light how the LED advertisement hoardings across the city have been causing inconvenience to vehicle users. The Commissioner said he would look into the matter and if the hoardings were found to affect road users, they would be taken down.

Deputy Commissioners of Police Hanumantharaya (Law and Order) and Uma Prashanth (Crime and Traffic) were present.
