Okkettur: Bike –jeep accident claims pillion rider’s life

Bantwal: A teenager lost his life after the bike on which he was travelling pillion was hit by a jeep at Okkettur on Mangaluru-Vittal Road on Sunday, May 20th.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Afrid (17), son of Kunhimonu, a resident of Okkettur in Vittal Kasaba village. Afrid was employed at a jewellery shop at Vittal and was on his way towards Vittal on his friend Mohammad Ishaq’s bike when the accident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, Afrid’s bike was hit by a jeep while negotiating a curve near the Okkettur bridge. The impact of the collision hurled Afrid on to the road, followed by a bus that was passing along that route ran over him, killing him on the spot.

The bike rider escaped without injuries and a case has been registered at Vittal Police station.
