Seven dead after bus-lorry collide in Tumakuru

Tumakuru: A private bus rammed into a stationary lorry on the outskirts of Sira in Tumakuru district on Sunday night, killing seven passengers and injuring another 20. The passengers had gone to Singanduru Chowdeshwari temple in Shivamogga district on May 19 and were returning to Sira on Sunday, when the accident occurred.
The private bus dashed into the stationary lorry that was parked on the left side of the NH-48 on the Hiriyuru-Sira Road at around 11 pm. Passengers who were on the left side of the bus have either been killed or seriously injured.
The deceased have been identified as Anusha (7), Savitha (21), Ratnamma (38), Sumalatha (21) and Girijamma (50) from Pattanayakanahalli in Sira, and Shankar (35) from Jyothinagar in Sira and Ashwathnarayana (40) from Sira. The injured are being treated at Tumakuru district government hospital and a case has been registered at Sira police station.
