Bengaluru: The Yeshwantpur Block Congress Committee said on Tuesday that incumbent MLA Muniratna will contest the bypolls in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly segment on May 28. Elections in the constituency were withdrawn after 9000 voter ID cards were found in an apartment in Jalahalli. The FIR registered by the police in the case had named Muniratna as one of the accused.
Councillors in wards under RR Nagar constituency G.K. Venkatesh, Nayakar, Srinivasa Murthy, G. Mohan Kumar asserted confidence in Muniratna’s victory. They also clarified that there was no alliance between the Congress and the JD(S) in RR Nagar.
Meanwhile, in the bypolls in Jayanagar Assembly constituency to be held on June 11, the BJP will be fielding B.N. Prahlad. Prahlad is the brother of the late MLA B.N. Vijaykumar, whose demise had postponed the elections in the constituency.
It seems like BJP has decided to play on the sympathy factor in this regard since there was a lot of opposition from the councillors about Prahlad’s candidature. Prahlad is a long-time associate of the RSS and is currently heading a company that takes up audio and video turnkey projects in south India.
