Youth arrested for attempting to disturb cammunal harmony through social media

Mangaluru: The police have arrested a young man on charge of publishing material on social media with intention to disturb communal harmony.

The arrested individual has been identified as Mithun K B (28) from Koyinadu near Madikeri. He has been produced in the court.

On May 20th, a bus driven by Rajendra A.B. hit a two-wheeler at Nettanige Mudnooru Golithadi. The impact of the collision led to the two-wheeler crashing on to the road thus injuring its rider. It is daid that when the bus conductor Nagaraja K. was waiting for vehicle to transport the injured to the hospital, allegedly residents of Galimukha village, Munaf, Nizad, and two others had abused the conductor, attacked him by kicking him. It is also said that a death threat was given by one of the accused, Munaf.

On May 22nd, the police had taken into custody Munaf and Nizad, both from Kasaragod as well as Shahul Hameed, resident of Nettanige Mudnooru, from Galimukha  as a result of the case registered in regard to this incident at the rural police station here. At the same time, it came to the notice of the police that WhatsApp messages claiming to be breaking news with inflammatory titles like ‘religious bigots from Golithadi get wild at Galimukha’, ‘Hindu Jagarana Vedike activist from Ishwaramangala, Nagaraja Kallaje, becomes victim of deadly communal attack – hospitalized’ etc were circulating in the area. The police registered case relating to these messages.

On May 22nd, after gathering information, the police successfully arrested the accused Mithun K.B.

The locals had got angry at the bus conductor and attacked him, as they were upset at the delay on the part of the bus conductor and driver in admitting the injured person into the hospital and not with any other purpose, clarified the police.
