‘Resort’ MLAs to be released today

Bengaluru: JD(S) and Congress legislators who were safely tucked away in resorts will return to their homes after voting in the confidence motion on Friday evening. Ever since the Assembly election results declared a hung Assembly, the MLAs of both parties were scrambled together and put up in various resorts- for almost 13 days- in order to prevent alleged attempts of poaching and bribing from the BJP.

In the beginning, they were put up in a star-category hotel in the central business district in Bengaluru. On May 17, when B.S. Yeddyurappa was invited to form the government and prove his majority in the House in 15 days, they were all moved to a resort in Hyderabad. When the Supreme Court intervened and ordered a floor test, they were moved back to Bengaluru on May 18, where they had to take oath the next day. Since then, JD(S) MLAs have been housed at a resort near Nandi Hills and Congress MLAs at a luxury hotel in Bengaluru.

The family members of many MLAs visited the resort after CM Yeddyurappa resigned. Sources say that the only time when the MLAs were outside the resort was on the day they took oath and on the day when Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy took oath. On Friday, they would be free to go home after participating in the confidence motion.
