Mangaluru: Unfinished work by the National Highway at Thokkottu junction and Pumpwell circle along with incompetent handling led to the flooding problems from the heavy rains on May 29, Tuesday, alleged Mangaluru MLA U T Khader on May 30th.
Addressing media he said that the procrastinating attitude of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has resulted in an inordinate delay of flyover constructions at Thokkottu and Pumpwell. The Chief Officer of NHAI has expressed his negligent attitude during the heavy water-logging and there was a lack of facilities by the authority to clear the debris. A Congress delegation will submit a complaint against the inefficiency of the company in finishing the constructions to the Union Road Transport Minister.
He urged the Central Government to initiate action against the construction company which has failed to stand up to the expectations of the public.
Since the model code of conduct for MLC elections is in force, he said that he could not take part in the review meetings related to the water logging situation. He urged the district administration to take precautionary measures towards sea erosion in Ullal.
The MLA lamented the loss of lives and property during the heavy rains on May 29th and thanked the police department for its involvement in the relief work and public co-operation.
