Bengaluru: In an endearing incident, a lady constable from Bengaluru held up humanity by breastfeeding an abandoned infant found by a rag picker on June 1.

The infant was saved by the Electronics City police after a shopkeeper educated them about the infant stuffed in a plastic bag and deserted under a bush near a house under construction in Celebrity Layout, Doddathoguru. The infant was first found by a rag picker who instantly informed the shopkeeper.

The infant was protected by assistant sub-inspector Nagesh R who quickly raced to the spot. The infant was then taken to an adjacent clinic and the doctors treated him free of cost. The infant was then conveyed to the station and was given over to a woman constable.

Archana, serving at the police headquarters as a constable, and who is also a mother of a three-month-old baby, seeing the child frail and motionless, breastfed him and saved him from starving.

The assistant sub-inspector purchased new garments for the infant and the infant was named after Chief Minister Kumaraswamy. “It is the government’s child now, and we chose to name him Kumaraswamy as it would be under the care of the government,” he said.

The infant has been currently given over to the Shishu Mandir on Hosur Road.
