Panambur Beach cleaned on Environment Day

Mangaluru: India has been chosen  as the global host for World Environment day -2018.  In this regard Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of India, had planned to undertake the cleaning of beaches and river stretches in the country with the tagline of “Beat Plastic Pollution”.  College of Fisheries, Mangaluru in collaboration with, District Administration, Dakshina Kannada and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management initiated a week long Beach cleaning campaign on 1.6.2018, at Panamboor beach and continued at various beaches of Mangaluru viz: Thanniru Bavi, Chota Bengre and Bengre.  on 5-06-2018, World environment day was celebrated by Cleaning the Panamboor Beach by different line departments of District Administration  and students of College of Fisheries, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Govt High school, Chitrapura,  N.I.T.K high school, Srinivasapura, Govt high school, Bikampady, NMPT high school, Panamboor,  MCF staffs, MRPL staffs,  BASF Staffs, JCI Mangalore, NGOs and general public participated actively in the beach cleaning programme,  

Nearly two truckload of plastic garbage was picked up from the beach and it was disposed off with the help of City Corporation. Function was symbolically inaugurated by Putting throwing the collected Plastic Bottles into the dust bin.  Ninasum  Prakarthi group performed the street Play about the plastic pollution and its impact on Environment. Dr, S.M. Shivaprakash  Dean incharge, college of Fisheries, Mangalore addressed the volunteers and explained about the cleanness of beaches and negative impact of plastic on marine life by reciting self composed poems. Dr. S.R. Someshakara Professor, College of Fisheries, Mangalore and coordinator of this programme and well executed this event. Mohmed Naseer, Commissioner, Mangaluru city corporation, Dr. Manjappa, Director,  R&D Sahayadri college of Engineering  and Management, Mr. Madhu , Mangaluru City corporation,  Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Regional Director Environment, Dr, Rajshekar Puranik, Environmental officer and Mr. Jayaprakash S Naik, KSPCB, Mangalore, Dr. Uttappa S, ACF Mangalore, Mahesh kumar U, Deputy Director Fisheries, Mr. Yateesh Bikampady, coordinator Beach Management Committee, officials from various school and colleges, Industrial establishments, Press and Media personals present and lend their hands in cleaning the beaches.
